Long time ago, on 27th of June 1940 American army had officially published contest for contraction of a vehicle that would manage well on all types of ground. Set conditions (max. weight 590 kg, carrying capacity 272 kg, interaxle distance 2,0 m etc.) were fulfilled only by three car producers-Batnam Car Co., Willys Overland and Ford. Batnam Car Co. had won the contest with his vehicle. There drawings and calculations as well as the prototypes were assigned to Willys Overland and Ford for further testing and development of finished vehicle. The result was well-known Willys MB and Ford GPW. By the end of the war the idea of making civil Jeep had emerged. Based on Willys MB CJ-2 it was made in few peaces and given to the farmers across the USA for testing.

CJ-2A is first serial civil Jeep. Differences to model Willys MB were small and mostly related to the signs Willys that were placed on lateral side of motor cover and underneath windshield, bigger lights, double glass height 25", windshield wipers built in upper windshield frame and spare tire placed on right side of the vehicle.

CJ-3A Jeep differs by enlarged one-piece windshield framed in square frame with opening for ventilation in the middle and windshield wipers built in lover part of windshield.
